“We ask our Black children to become educated and when they do: we call them white.” —

a interviewee from the documentary Street Fight

This caught my attention while watching 50 documentaries To See Before You Die.

(via thefistofartemis)

I never understood this aspect of “black” culture. A lot of my black friends tell me that the term “white-washed” has been used to negatively describe them by their peers. Maybe this comes from a generations long brainwashing, but… white doesn’t equal intelligent. Why do I even have to say that? White doesn’t equal intelligent. Intelligence does not know race or gender or economic background. Intelligence is not as objective as we have been conditioned to see it as. Intelligence isn’t just black and white, pardon the pun.
